“We love a good arch sing under Wayland Arch and sometimes even MoChamp arch,” said treasurer Shayla Key ’20 as she pored over the group’s budget. “But at some point last semester, we decided it was time to kick things up a notch and fly our 14 members to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri for one really, really big arch sing.”

As she booked dozens of gigs to fund the trip, Key’s excitement mounted. “We’ll do a three-song set and make a Facebook event with a cute little cover photo. It will be just like our normal arch sings, except we’ll be under the most massive arch in the world. It’s every a cappella group’s dream.”

“If the acoustics under Wayland Arch are good, I can’t even imagine how amazing we’ll sound under this 630-foot-tall arch. We’ll have to stand 50 feet away from each other to get the spacing right—and of course we need to fly out some prospective students since that’s our main audience—but at the end of the day, we’ll have lived the dream.”

As of press time, United had misplaced the group’s luggage, and the students were frantically trying to recover their colorful suspenders.
