Americans estimate that the 634,00 Haitians forced into displacement camps following the disaster must have figured it all out already, or else the Americans would know about it. “When I first saw the pictures of the devastation, I went door-to-door asking for donations for Haiti,” said Jeffrey Rolan of Milwaukee. “I never heard back that they needed more, so it must have been enough money to get them going again.” The Haitian Recovery Committee created in Washington, DC, to coordinate aid closed last October when the executive board realized that Haiti could almost certainly take it from here.
