Broadway Lyricist Drops A “Monsieur” Just In Case You Forgot The Story Takes Place In France

“I was worried that the audience might lose their bearings without a helpful hint,” Mason explained sympathetically. “So I added a subtle nod to the French language.”

“Audience members are at risk of forgetting whether the musical takes place in France or in some other country, like Germany or Spain,” Mason continued. “I always like to give them a nudge in the right direction.”

“French words just really help set the scene here,” Mason added. “I aim to create a truly immersive experience, so I’m planning to include “Monsieur” at least a dozen more times in this song."

At press time, Mason was specifying in the lyrics that a loaf of bread a character is holding is in fact a baguette.
