Chen and Mrs. Quentin met by chance at a local softball tournament, where several sisters-from-other-misters were also in attendance, cheering on various people they were not related to but who shared with them a common interest or location.

“I was so excited to see Jason’s mom again,” Chen said. “She was truly the mother of the brother I sort of had, and we made sure that we would always be bonded because of that.”

Chen’s brother-from-another-mother, Marcus Broadus, joined in the celebration, noting that, “It doesn’t take a shared mother to make a true brotherly relationship happen.” Broadus and Chen’s shared father, Dan Chen, declined to comment.

“I’ll always remember the relationships in my life,” noted Chen. “Be it with my family or my friends, who are simply family members begotten from a different family.”

Chen started crying at the mention of his sister’s daughter-from-another-sea-otter, who perished in a killer whale attack, but remembered the strength of his uncle’s niece-from-a-man-named-Maurice, who survived a bout of gout from another mother’s boy scout.
