Lassen, who has previously focused his critical lens on such topics as family members, favorite foods and the various ways of asking for the time, did not hesitate to give his conversation exercise partner, Katherine Byrnes ’16, his unabashed opinion of the day’s weather.

“It is very cold outside,” Lassen remarked in French. “There is wind. Also, there are clouds. Also, it is even freezing.”

He added, “It is the coldest day.”

When pressed by Byrnes as to whether or not he thought it would rain, Lassen was unequivocal. “Yes,” said Lassen. “I am certain it will rain.”

This isn’t the first time Lassen has spoken with such conviction in the French language. In a recent post on the class’s discussion blog titled “My Hobbies,” Lassen writes passionately about how he spends his free time.

“I do like reading and going for a walk and cooking in my kitchen,” writes Lassen. “I do not like tennis."
