“I know that it’s called ‘catch,’” said Dave Valencia, a witness to the game. “But it appears that the throwing part is just as important. In fact, the throw seems necessary to enable the catch.”

According to onlookers, the game was almost exactly 50% catching and 50% throwing, although there were slightly more throws than catches, as one participant appeared to have subpar hand-eye coordination.

“It seems unfair to just call it ‘catch,’” Valencia concluded. “There’s clearly a lot more going on there.”

Valencia suggested the use of names like “pass” and “toss” to increase awareness and representation of the game.
