“I caught a whiff of truffle oil, and I knew it was the grilled cheese truck,” said local fourth-grader Travis Zimbel, who grabbed his allowance money and ran outside to purchase a gourmet grilled cheese from the truck.

Zimbel’s mother, Linda Zimbel called after him, warning Travis not to spoil his dinner. “No triple cream brie. You can have the double cream,” Linda added. Zimbel noted that he had been saving his change for this occasion, and opted for a bourbon-infused gouda and apple sandwich for $13.50.

“It’s not late October until you hear the familiar tune of the grilled cheese truck,” Linda said. “When I was a kid I used to run out to get the fontina with raspberry drizzle. It’s nice to know that some things never change.”

Stewart Leoni, owner of the truck, remarked, “Seeing those smiling kids is what it’s all about. It’s part of what makes October so fun, and it’s perfect grilled cheese weather today.” Leoni’s truck sells grilled cheese truck classics, including goat cheese and strawberry compote, fontina and caramelized onion, and “The Spiderman”—muenster and apple wood bacon on waffles.

Zimbel said he was excited for the grilled cheese truck to come down his street again, but was even more excited about winter, when the used bike parts truck would start coming down his block.
