“I knew it was going to be bad when Patrick’s only friend was his 90-year-old grandmother,” commented Carol Schuth, wiping away tears and regretting going to a film advertised as “Family Fun, and a Raucous Good Time.” “And with the mine shut down, there was no way Patrick could have afforded her medicine.”

“The scene with the family cow just killed me. When Patrick had to sell her for firewood? That cow was the last thing they owned. They have nothing left.”

“Oh, and then the grandmother was struggling to cut a single boiled potato, and that was dinner for both of them. That was also bad,” added Schuth, blowing her nose with a leftover napkin from her pocket. “Really, the only part that was even a bit funny was when Patrick went to the pub and a goat walked in. Other than that, nothing.”

At press time, Schuth didn’t have a good feeling about a feel-good movie set during the Troubles.
