“It’s not uncommon to see kids doing other work or scrolling through Facebook during class,” Smalls said, engrossed in the artist’s handiwork. “But she’s literally working on an oil painting.”

“The professor must know she’s not paying attention or taking notes," Smalls added, losing his focus on the lecture entirely as the painting developed. "She’s clearly been staring at her canvas this whole time.”

“I was sick the last class and asked if I could copy her notes. She just handed me an oil painting of a marsh.”
