“The main character was drinking out of a champagne glass in the first scene,” audience member Tim Haugerud recalled. “I had no idea where he was supposed to be, but I knew it must be fancy because of that glass. The next scene was a party, but it quickly became clear that they only had one champagne glass because they all took turns using it.”

Haugerud went on to describe the blocking, dialogue, and set design, all aspects of the play which involved one singular prop: an empty, plastic champagne flute.

“There was a rooftop scene where they used the glass as a telescope and a fight scene where someone fought with it like a sword. During the climax of the show, the main character broke down crying and used the glass as a tissue.”

At press time, PW members were gingerly storing the champagne glass in an otherwise empty prop closet.
