“Our separation from campus has left us no choice but to cancel many beloved community gatherings, and unfortunately this applies to our annual 420 celebration as well,” Paxson stated in the email, offering her deepest sympathies to seniors who expected to celebrate one more 420 at Brown. “But it’s very important to me that we continue our time-honored tradition of getting absolutely stoned together as one Brown community. That’s why we’ve made the difficult decision to indefinitely postpone — but not cancel — Brown’s commemoration of 420 this year.”

“I want to emphasize that this is not a matter of ‘if’ the Brown community will gather to get completely gone off the loud, but rather ‘when,’” Paxson’s email continued, noting that administrators are working tirelessly to ensure that all students can smoke a bowl on the Main Green in the fall. “When I talk to Brown alumni about the most meaningful parts of their time on College Hill, they often recall being on the Main Green on 420, coming together to take huge bong rips, savor fat blunts, and get demolished on edibles. All of our 2020 graduating students deserve to have this tremendous experience.”

Paxson concluded her message by listing a number of University resources for accessing weed while off of campus.
