People Can’t See Through Corn. Here’s Why That’s A Problem. by A Vox Journalist Lost In A Maze

The Push for Transparent Corn, Explained.

A growing activist movement has been lobbying those who make corn to go ahead and make that corn see-through. While this may sound far-fetched to many people in this country, leaders of the Clear Corn movement cite foods like gelatin and rock candy, both of which already exist and are see-through — and everyone accepts that as normal.

Though the scale of the Clear Corn movement cannot be overstated, its leadership is based in the corn maze that I am in right now. The exact location of the movement’s leader is not exactly certain, and that is part of the problem. If corn belonged to the same visual category as something like glass, even for only a minute or so, the positive consequences would be long lasting.

Corn’s Troubled History. It’s Never Been Clear.

As long as corn remains impossible to see though, we as a country are lost. We must move forward as a nation, but the data suggests that if trends continue (re: corn being not see-through) many of us cannot progress. We are walking in circles.

But what are the origins of corn?

Maize is a cereal grain first domesticated by those living in what is now Mexico, about 10,000 years ago. It was opaque then and it is opaque now. No change in 10,000 years.

Let that sink in.

We need to do better. Corn’s opacity is causing direct harm to the most vulnerable among us (those in mazes).

Where do we go from here?

Please tell me where to go from here. I really need to get out of this maze. Which way do I go?

It’s getting dark outside.
