“He really was a man ahead of his time,” Wikipedia reader Susan Walter reflected. “To think that there were 19th-century European philosophers who didn’t go out of their way to disparage Jews — it just boggles the mind.”

Walter was amazed to learn that Friedrich managed to live his entire life without ever caricaturing Judaism or stereotyping Jewish people. In fact, Friedrich’s published works express a resounding indifference towards Jews, solidifying his status as a revolutionary thinker.

“Back in the day, if you didn’t use Judaism as a vehicle to criticize contemporary trends in Europe, nobody really respected you as a philosopher,” Walter continued. “It was incredibly brave of Friedrich to take radical action and just say nothing about Jews.”

At press time, the discovery of Friedrich’s private diaries resulted in the addition of an “Antisemitism” section.
