“The readings just really resonated with me,” stated Carmichael Sinclair ’25, whose family has lived in Westchester for 100 years. “Probably because it’s in my blood, you know? I’m a native New Yorker, born and raised.”

Students report that they took the class to celebrate the concrete jungle, despite being more knowledgable about jungles of manicured hedges and Scarsdale garden parties.

“I admit, I’m more familiar with the upper upper upper East side,” added Sinclair as he flipped through Nella Larson’s Passing. “Still, I just feel so connected with this work. That’s the Big Apple for you. Best city in the world, and I know her like the back of my hand.”

At press time, every single person in the class was planning to move to Brooklyn after graduation.
