“Throughout my entire education in Economics at Brown, I have developed a strong background and keen interest in auditing corporations’ financial statements,” Tonkin wrote at the very beginning of his cover letter, immediately gaining a lifelong love for the practice of confirming whether businesses report their transactions accurately. “I am confident I have the quantitative skills and intense enthusiasm for financial auditing necessary to succeed in this role.”

As Tonkin went on to fill out the body paragraphs of his cover letter, he quickly discovered that all of his academic and professional experiences have in fact been building toward a career in ensuring that financial filings are stated in accordance with specified accounting standards — and that he hopes to start his journey into the exciting field of financial auditing at Deloitte.

“My constant devotion to high quality auditing stems directly from my personal experience with the 2008 financial crisis, which changed everything for me,” Tonkin continued, waxing poetic as the grander purpose of financial audits abruptly revealed itself to him near the bottom of the page. “The continued prosperity of our nation — and the world — depends entirely on effective auditing services and the dedicated accountants who perform them. I hope to join their ranks upon graduation.”
