Following the lead of prominent web companies Wikipedia and reddit, Adam McFarland ’13 blacked out on Friday night for several hours in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act, which has been making its way through Congress.
In a press conference that evening, McFarland painted a bleak picture of the bills, saying, “Imagine a world where Wikipedia can’t get you that fact you forgot, reddit can’t help you forget about the paper due tomorrow morning, or Google can no longer help you find that funny video you forgot to bookmark."
“If these bills pass the Internet as we know it may be a lost memory,” continued McFarland, "Therefore, I am announcing today that I will forget everything that happens tonight in order to protest these pieces of legislation.”
