Students Enjoy Pizza, Discussion About Urban Something or Another, at Public Policy DUG

Published Friday, December 4th, 2009

Newcomers to last Thursday's Public Policy DUG were quite surprised and happy to find themselves enjoying a delicious selection of Domino's Pizza. A variety of pies were available to the attendees, from a simple cheese to the complex flavors of a Meat Lover's pizza. Also, there were some people talking about government-type stuff.

"Man, I'm just so happy I found this group," said Daniel Kint, '12. "I was a little worried that the meeting was going to drag on about some kind of welfare program yada yada before they broke out the pizza, but they got through all of that stuff pretty quickly."

Kint spoke highly of the group's president, Jon Andrews '10, who was instrumental in the quick pace of the meeting. According to Kint, Andrews started out the meeting in a typical manner, introducing himself as the president and talking about the groups' goals.

Said Kint, "When he started talking about how the group would better educate us on the world of public policy, I started getting really worried that he was just going to drag on for a while. But he moved pretty quickly through whatever trade regulation crap he was getting on about. He was also looking at his watch a lot the whole time. I guess he was in a hurry to go somewhere."

Andrews, like Kint, seemed very pleased with the turnout of the event.

"There sure were a lot of people here today, which is always a good thing. It's nice to have so many people here who are interested in what we do. I think the only bad thing that happened is that the pizza delivery guy showed up a little late. I mean, when they give a 30 minute guarantee, I expect my pizza to be here in 30 minutes or less. I got so hungry, I couldn't stop checking my watch the whole time. Also, I was running out of stuff to say. I was worried that someone might notice if I just kept reading the Wikipedia article on NAFTA I printed out on my way over here.

Despite the tardiness of the pizza, many students claimed that they had a great time at the event. Maddie Simmons '13 said "You know it's just so great to be around so many people who are as interested as I am about how chemistry affects out life in so many ways. It's just so cool and.wait, hold on. That was yesterday, wasn't it?.or was it Monday?.shit, what's this one about again?"

Upon further inquiry, Simmons responded that the University was doing great work in educating kids in "whatever the hell this department is", and that they should continue to hold these meetings well into the future. She also mentioned that she had seen Kint leaving about 10 minutes into the meeting with a whole pizza box.
