YouTube Video of Student Selling Facebook Account on eBay Generates Mixed Responses

Published Friday, November 30th, 2007

Despite putting considerable effort into his most recent YouTube video, Jared Plimpton '10 was disheartened last Sunday to discover that, after 420 views, his user rating sat at a thoroughly mediocre 2.34 stars.

"One of my Top 8 on MySpace wrote on my wall to break the news," Plimpton said in an interview with The Noser. "Needless to say, it was pretty discouraging. I logged into my YouTube account and found a ton of PMs saying it just wasn't as good as my first video. But even the greatest artists have sophomore slumps, right?"

Plimpton's first video, which, at 1337 views and counting, rests at a respectable 3.42 stars, showed him simultaneously playing "World of Warcraft" while creating a PowerPoint presentation and editing a Wikipedia page.

"It's amazing what you can do when you adjust the size of your windows and plug a few keyboards into your USB ports," Plimpton said. "It's not immediately obvious in the video, but I was also taking pictures of myself on Photo Booth while filming. Some of them came out really well."

According to many online YouTube critics, however, Plimpton's latest simply didn't live up to the promise of his debut. "Lawl U = are teh lzer!" commented frequent poster ShakeMaAss. Threadshredder47 responded similarly, offering "Go home n00b" as advice for Plimpton's further directorial efforts. "OMGWTFBBQ," he added.

Many of Plimpton's closest companions are making every effort to reach out to him in this time of need. "I gave him a potted flower a few days ago on his Facebook gift box," said Melvin Briggs, a retired Army veteran who met Plimpton on eHarmony as Dreamgurl18. "He hasn't responded yet, though, and I'm getting worried because
hasn't updated his status since yesterday. I can only hope he's been too busy modding the IMDB boards to respond."

Insider reports indicate that Plimpton will take time off to reconsider what's really important to him. "He's been spending a lot more time on Skype than usual, venting his disappointment and looking for advice," said Briggs.

"His next video will likely be a huge shift in style and substance; I think he said something about a few girls and a cup or something, but I probably won't watch it. It doesn't sound that interesting to me."
