According to a study released Tuesday by the American Dental Association, four out of five dentists recommend brushing and flossing at least twice a day unless you’ve really gotta be somewhere, in which case you should just pop in a mint before you head out the door. “Our surveys indicate that while brushing and flossing greatly reduce plaque and tartar buildup, 80 percent of dentists understand that, hey, sometimes you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to commit to proper dental hygiene because you’ve gotta get to, among other places, the bowling alley or the local auto repair shop or your kid’s choir concert,” said ADA representative Celia Horton. “In these instances, most dentists recommend eating a mint-flavored candy—so you don’t feel disgusting or have bad breath—and trying your best to get around to brushing sometime later in the day.” The study also revealed that four out of five dentists are pro-choice.
