American Studies Concentrator Up Late Practicing The Pledge Of Allegiance

Published Friday, March 11th, 2016

Holding coffee in one hand and placing the other over her heart, American Studies concentrator Keely Montero spent nearly six hours last night facing an American flag hung on her dorm room wall and practicing the Pledge of Allegiance by herself over and over again. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America,” said Montero with perfect rhythm and cadence, her roommate fast asleep while she repeatedly devoted herself to her country in preparation for her upcoming midterm in AMST1450: America! Nation of Dreams. “And to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Man, I love my country and my concentration!” At press time, the Pledge of Allegiance didn’t even show up on the midterm, and Montero and her classmates went to war.
