Award-Winning Director Owes It All to His Supportive Family and the Tiny Monster That Lives in His Pocket and Tells Him What to Do

Director’s Guild Award winner Daniel Moyer announced in his acceptance speech on Sunday that he owes all his success to his family and the tiny monster that lives in his pocket and tells him what to do.

“All day every day, I’ve got them to turn to: my wonderful wife, my daughter Katie, my son Caleb, and the monster who gives me advice from his home in my shirt pocket,” said Moyer. “They mean everything to me.”

As the director of several critically acclaimed films, Moyer has become known for his fast-paced, visually stunning style. Moyer revealed that he maintains his creative energy by talking things over with his family and the monster in his pocket, who Moyer sometimes refers to as Kenny. “I owe so much to this little guy,” said Moyer as he looked down at his shirt pocket. “I get my best ideas from him.”

“An artist doesn’t live in a bubble,” said Moyer, who emphasized that he is constantly inspired by the things around him. “I looked at a drawing my daughter made the other day and I just know those colors and that energy will show up in my next movie.”

“The little monster who lives in my pocket told me they will,” Moyer added.

“That great shot by the lake? That was all Kenny,” said Moyer. “We spent so many late nights talking through ideas together, and just talking about life, really. I couldn’t have done it without him.”

“Kids, if you’re watching this, go to bed,” Moyer said, addressing his family at home. “Kenny, you can stay up because you’re a monster,” added Moyer as he patted his shirt pocket.

“You are my rock,” said Moyer, addressing the small, cuddly monster who acts as his constant companion and confidant. “I love you so much.”
