According to a study released last Wednesday by the American Medical Association, body heat escapes fastest through the giant open hole in the back of the head. The study found that, in ascending order, heat escapes fastest through the hands, feet, left eye, right eye, mouth, and finally the gaping head hole, noting that head hole was by far the biggest heat loser by an order of magnitude.
“The primary cause of heat loss is the lack of bone and skin,” read the study, also noting that the sheer size of head holes is a large contributor to heat loss too. “Though it can be easy to forget, since you can’t see your own head hole, you are actually losing tremendous amounts of body heat this way.”
“The common belief is that just wearing a coat is sufficient to retain warmth,” read the study. “But leaving your giant head hole exposed to elements can lead to short- and long-term health risks.” The study found that neglecting to cover up your big head cavity in the winter could increase your chances of catching a cold, or even the flu.
While results are conclusive that special attention should be paid to your giant head hole in colder weather, related studies have found that packing your head hole with ice can be a welcome way to cool down in the summer.
