Following a three-month bidding war between the soft drink giants, The Coca-Cola Company outbid PepsiCo for sponsorship of the Bern Lake Pepsi Bottling Factory in North Carolina.
Beginning in early November, the Pepsi machines in the break room, “Diet Pepsi Cherry Vanilla” banners in the lavatories and mandatory Pepsi-sponsored living quarters will be phased out for Coca-Cola brand equivalents. When asked how the change could affect employee morale and preferences, line worker Maureen Davis begged reporters to remove her from “this syrupy dark brown hellhole.”
