College Students Form White Comedy Group

Published Friday, October 30th, 2015

This past weekend eight students got together to form a white comedy group. The group, self-named “The Sketchersons” and comprised entirely of white students, reportedly covers a wide variety of forms.

“We do a little everything,” said Jared Nelson, a white senior and founding member of the all-white comedy group. “Sketch, standup, improv, you name it. The only thing that really ties us all together is that we’re funny. All of us.”

When asked whether the racial makeup of the group was deliberate, Nelson shook his head emphatically. “No no no! You’ve got us all wrong. We’re not deliberately like this. We’re just eight funny people. This isn’t about race. I’m not even sure why you’re bringing it up.”

At the meetings, members are reported to laugh raucously at each other’s jokes, mostly having to do with things white people think are funny.

“We love jokes that can really be tailored to an audience like us,” said Lucy Gruyter. “For example, jokes about getting too drunk at a restaurant with your parents, tropical vacations, or foreign exchange students you had a crush on. These are topics people like us know and understand. They want to laugh about it.”

When asked whether The Sketchersons would consider adding members of color to their group, everyone seemed to agree that indeed they would.

“Its not like we’re racist," said Nelson. "We just know what’s funny. If you are funny, have a similar sensibility to us, talk like us, and think like we do, then you’ll get in the group.”
