Starting for the Class of 2024, the Computer Science department has announced that it will require all CS concentrators to take CS 001: Introduction to Social Life.
A preliminary syllabus released by the CS department detailed that course will begin with a unit on time management.
“We’ll teach our students how to pry their eyes away from their laptops and finally speak to another human being during the semester,” CS interim department chair John Hughes explained. “And that conversation will not be about their latest homework assignment.”
The course will then move to a unit on conversation, specifically one that does not take place over Piazza.
“Students must also attend TA hours twice a week, where they will be reminded that they should stop spending all day in TA hours and maybe go get coffee with a friend, or just sit and enjoy the breeze,” Hughes elaborated. “The course will culminate in a final project requiring concentrators to attend a party of their choosing, preferably one not hosted by a university DUG.”
At press time, the CS department was desperately searching for a CS concentrator qualified to TA the class.
