Documentary Seemed Like Real Movie from Poster

Published Friday, September 6th, 2013

Audiences at the Westmark Cinema 14 were confused this weekend when a movie whose poster made it seem like it was going to be a real movie, actually ended up being a documentary.

The poster for “Demolition Squad” features an image of an exploding car and the tag line “What would you do to save the ones you love?” both of which seem to suggest that the movie contains real movie things like explosions, sex scenes and an entertaining fictional plot line.

However, within the first five minutes of the film, it became clear to audiences that “Demolition Squad” was actually a devastating investigation of living conditions in an impoverished Ugandan slum, shot in the style of cinéma verité and not about guns or fast cars or anything fun at all.

“I thought it was going to be a real movie about an elite team of demolition experts going after one last heist or infiltrating a terrorist compound in the middle east,” commented moviegoer Anthony Malta. “But then it ended up being a critically acclaimed documentary exploring serious issues actually facing people in the world today.”

He added, “That was pretty disappointing.”

Though “Demolition Squad” doesn’t deliver the shoot ‘em up storyline that its poster seems to promise, it does feature several scenes of graphic nudity. “But it’s not real movie nudity,” commented Malta. “It’s, like, sad nudity. Like, really sad documentary nudity."

At press time, the filmmakers could not be reached for comment, having been recently abducted by militants owing to the controversial nature of the injustices exposed in their film. Meanwhile, in Cinema 12, audiences were pleased to find those little minions from “Despicable Me 2” up to their usual hijinks.
