Eager Students Line Up Around Block For Grand Opening Of Chase Bank

Published Friday, September 13th, 2019

Eagerly awaiting the grand opening of Thayer Street’s newest banking location, dozens of students lined up around the block early in the morning to be among the first to make transactions with Chase Bank.

“I’ve been so excited for this day ever since I heard Chase Bank was coming to Thayer,” said Alicia Yang ’21, who reportedly woke up at 5:00 A.M. to beat the crowd of excited students waiting to get a taste for the bank’s trendy new selection of checking and savings accounts. “This is really going to breathe some new life into our banking options near campus. I mean, there’s that Santander right next door and a Citizens Bank down the street, but it can get a little repetitive to just keep opening credit cards with the same old banks.”

After a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by over 150 cheering students and community members, the long line of clients patiently filed in to try out Chase Bank’s signature ATMs and chat with the bank tellers about loan options.

“I’m from New York, so obviously there’s no shortage of great banks to visit back home,” said Dominic DuPont ’22 after making his first deposit with Chase Bank following a three-hour wait. “I’ve been hoping a really good international financial institution would open up a location in Providence ever since I started here at Brown. After seeing the wide variety of financial products they offer here, I think this Chase Bank branch might just be what I’ve been looking for.”

As long lines continued to stretch out the door for days after the grand opening, students agreed Chase Bank would be a central fixture of the Thayer Street banking scene for years to come.
