Father Happy to Take Your Friends Out to Dinner

Published Friday, November 2nd, 2012

Shortly after arriving in Providence, Eric Martin informed his son Trevor that he would be happy to take his friends out to dinner.

Though it was originally planned to be a dinner for just the two of them, Martin thought it might be fun if Trevor asked a couple of his pals if they would like to tag along.

“Really, it’s up to Trev," remarked Martin. "But he should start asking if anyone is going to be free. His friend Ben is a nice boy. Though, if there’s a young lady he’d rather bring, that would be fine by me,” Martin said.

Martin reminded Trevor that he was not trying to intrude on his life, and he certainly would try not to embarrass him.

“Listen, I remember what it was like to be a college man,” he said. “I’m sure these boys would love a break from the garbage they serve in the cafeteria. It’ll be my treat!"

When Trevor informed his father that a few of his suite-mates might not be able to make it because of midterms, Martin was undeterred.

“That’s just fine,” said Martin. “I know how busy these Brown students are, and school always comes first. I’m not holding anyone’s feet to the fire, but I’m going to go ahead and make a reservation for six of us. I can always change it if more people decide they want to come, Trev knows that.”

Martin also informed Trevor that he would be willing to use his iPad to take pictures of Trevor with all of his friends in front of various campus landmarks, an offer Trevor has yet to accept or acknowledge in any way.
