After failing to make it past the first round of cuts at auditions for Providence High School’s improv comedy group, freshman Curtis Manderson cheered himself up with the sage reminder that Michael Jordan didn’t make his high school improv comedy team, either.
“Michael Jordan is my improv comedy hero, and they turned him away in high school, too,” said Manderson as he looked around his room filled with posters of other improv greats like Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, and Air Bud. “I guess Scenes from a Hat can give even the legends like us some trouble.”
“I’ve got the same problem as Michael, and it’s that people look at my greatness and they’re scared of it” continued Manderson, insisting that his classmates simply didn’t understand his refined humor of poorly-timed ‘that’s what she said’ jokes and one-liners he stole from Reddit. “The greats like us need to work twice as hard to earn respect.”
“MJ didn’t become the greatest improv comedian of all time by sitting in his room and sulking,” added Manderson, sulking. “But he got that chip on his shoulder, and so do I.”
At press time, Manderson was spotted scrolling through Jordan’s Wikipedia page to see if he ever gave Mock Trial a shot.
