Following a game-winning touchdown, Woonsocket High School’s humble running back Corey Downes celebrated with his signature astonishment by crying out, “Who woulda thunk?” “This is truly incredible,” Downes said, modestly shaking his head in disbelief as his teammates lifted him onto their shoulders and carried him off the field. “It’s crazy to think how many things had to come together for that touchdown to happen: a smart play call by the coach, a clean hand off from the quarterback, and a strong block by the linemen. It’s unbelievable how lucky I am to be a part of this team’s success.” At press time, Downes was heard bashfully muttering, “I just can’t wrap my head around this,” as his teammates dumped a cooler of Gatorade on him.
