Indie Student Athlete Prefers Acoustic Scooters Over Electric

Published Saturday, February 18th, 2023

Unlike other guys on the Brown University football team, junior linebacker Jon Harvey prefers riding acoustic scooters instead of electric ones.

“My teammates are too swept up in the speed and sexiness of electric scooters,” said Harvey, unfolding the 2009 Razor Kick Scooter he found at a local thrift store. “But they’re missing out on the pure exuberance of scootering unrestrained and raw. It’s all about pushing off that sidewalk and into the world around you: foot to concrete, foot to concrete, all day long baby.”

While electric scooters require far less physical effort and reach much higher speeds than acoustic scooters, Harvey still prefers to ride his Razor, cherishing every opportunity he gets to scoot across campus.

“My teammates? They’re simply passengers on their scooters,” added Harvey, greasing up the rubber wheels in preparation for an acoustic scoot down Hope Street. “Me? I get to bond with my scooter. I get to feel my scooter. I get to become one with my scooter.”

At press time, Harvey was spotted using a “Brown Football” organic tote bag instead of the standard Nike backpack.
