Janus Forum To Host Debate Between White Supremacist, Meaner White Supremacist

Published Friday, December 5th, 2014

Saying that they hope to provoke discussion about a controversial topic, Brown’s Janus Forum lecture series will host a debate between white supremacist Rick Foster and even meaner white supremacist Don Donahue this month, sources confirmed.

“The Janus Forum is committed to hearing diverse perspectives on a variety of difficult issues,” Political Theory Project Director John Tomasi said, noting that Foster’s mild-mannered white supremacy will serve as an important counterpoint to the violent and unhinged white supremacy of Donahue. “These dialogues are imperative to fostering critical thinking and freedom of expression at Brown and in the community at large.”

Foster, who believes in juridical equality between races but just thinks white people are better, will debate Donahue about whether schools should be re-segregated along racial lines. Both men, Janus Forum representatives confirm, are evil and racist, “but that’s sort of the point,” Tomasi said.

“If we can’t have a civil conversation about ideas that seem to us unpleasant, how will we grow as a community of learners?” said Tomasi. “This is what activists who hope to silence free speech don’t understand. We need to listen to and understand the horrible and oppressive ideologies of powerful people in order to fight back against them. That’s why the Janus Forum gives these terrible people a platform to legitimate views that are rooted in ignorance and hatred.”

“We need to figure out whether racism is bad, and that requires that we have an honest conversation and weigh the pros and cons,” added Tomasi. “This is what democracy is all about.”

At press time, Tomasi suggested that those upset with the speakers should ask them a pointed question.
