Calling it the literary event of the year, publisher HarperCollins announced today that New York Times bestselling author Jonathan Safran Foer would publish his next novel on 700 glued-together drinking cups from Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle.
“Foer wanted to continue experimenting with form, and this is his boldest project yet,” said Senior Director of Publicity Shelby Meizlik about Foer’s new novel, which will reportedly come in twelve, sixteen, and twenty-four ounce sizes. “We see more and more customers wanting to read from their drinking paraphernalia and vice versa, and this meets that very real demand.”
“HarperCollins has always prized quality as well as innovation,” Meizlik continued, noting that she already had several well-thumbed copies of the novel in her cupboard at home. "It’s thrilling to know that folks will be able to read touching, humane stories from a brilliant author, all while enjoying their favorite Coca-Cola products.”
The book, which follows two teenagers on a journey for meaning and genuine insight through Los Angeles, and which features an eccentric geriatric as well as a mysterious treasure map, will be purchasable at book stores and fast-casual restaurants everywhere.
At press time, Meizlik could be seen with the manuscript for another as yet unpublished Foer novel, which will reportedly be inscribed into the sandwich bread at Panera.
