Praying that her work makes it onto the right desk, Literary Arts concentrator Johanna Riegel ’22 has submitted an original screenplay for consideration in her friends’ annual secret Santa gift exchange.
“I cannot believe this happened again,” said Sarah Sullivan ’22, the recipient of Riegel’s original screenplay, Enigma. “Johanna promised us that she wouldn’t pass off any of her old writing assignments as presents this year, but we should’ve known better than to trust her. She once flaked on a week’s worth of plans just to figure out if her novel should take place in the south of France or an Arby’s parking lot.”
Sullivan added that, during a recent birthday celebration, Riegel gifted her roommate a draft of her poetry anthology and asked for written feedback within the week.
“How hard is it to buy some scented candles from the Urban Outfitters sale section?” asked Sullivan, using Riegel’s screenplay to prop up an uneven leg of her kitchen table. “Johanna can’t keep getting away with this. Her LinkedIn says that she’s participated in over fifty writing competitions, but she’s just talking about sending unfinished short stories into our group chat!”
At press time, Riegel was asking her friends to workshop resolutions during their New Year’s Eve party.
