Little Library Box Has Soggy Copy Of Hungry Caterpillar And That’s It

Published Friday, February 6th, 2026

Reports indicate that several months after the Thompson family put up a mailbox-sized library for their fellow neighbors, the only book that remains is a weathered children’s book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

“We set up this Little Library as a way to expand book access in our community,” said Rob Thompson, who was unaware that all the good books were taken quickly, leaving only the picture book disintegrating due to the poorly crafted door being perpetually ajar. “It feels nice to provide this service to the neighborhood.”

“I was surprised that Rob decided to take up this task, but it does make sense. He sure always loved reading to our children; of course he would like to help more people find different books,” continued Rob’s wife Susan Thompson, unaware that the lone book had all of its pages mushed together into one brick of paper. “I really hope our neighbors will read plenty more books!”

At press time, someone put a Bible in the library box too.
