Late Wednesday night, Sabrina Huerta was completely dumbfounded when a mature deer reacted surprisingly well in headlights as she barreled around a curve.

“I was fully expecting him to freeze up, like always,” said Huerta, recalling how the deer didn’t even flinch in the oncoming headlights and trotted across the road. “But he was very calm and continued on his way.”

“He was so understanding that I had to hit the brakes, that I was going at a pace that I just couldn’t handle, and he reacted very nobly,” continued Huerta. “He knew it was our time to go separate ways, which he did perfectly at a brisk stride.”

“I was simply shocked that he walked away in one piece,” said Huerta, relieved he didn’t act up and wreck her car. “I had totally braced myself for him to just explode.”

At press time, Huerta lamented that a wise owl was terrible at reading her emotions.
