Mets Catcher Traded For Mint Condition Mike Piazza Rookie Card

Published Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014

As per a recent statement issued by New York Mets General Manager Terry Collins, starting catcher Travis d’Arnaud will be traded for a mint condition Mike Piazza rookie card.

Sources confirm that the right-hander will be traded to Toronto GM John Gibbons by the Citi Field flagpole when his one-year, $502k contract expires. “D’Arnaud has been playing some great baseball since recovering from his concussion,” said Collins. “But it’s a Mike Piazza rookie card for crying out loud! He’s a legend.”

“Let me see! Let me see!” said New York first baseman Lucas Duda, trying to get a look at the baseball card acquired by the Mets in exchange for the 2014 All-Rookie catcher.

Murphy added, “Holy smokes, mint condition! That’s gotta be worth a fortune!”

With a .242 batting average and 13 home runs this season, the 25-year-old d’Arnaud is still considered a top MLB catching prospect. “He has the potential to become a great player, and it’s tough to see him go,” said Collins as he positioned the framed Mike Piazza rookie card next to his baseball mitt on the Mets front office mantle.

“Wait till the guys see this. They are gonna be so jealous.”

Collins refused to comment on the rumor that the Mets are also negotiating a trade that could send half of their lineup to Milwaukee in exchange for Darryl Strawberry’s 1986 World Series Game Seven home run ball.
