Normally Humorless Cat Hamming It Up for the Camera

Published Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Domestic housecat and budding YouTube sensation Herman has overcome his inherently boring nature to ham it up whenever there is a camera around him.

Herman, whose day-to-day routine normally includes such yawn-inducing activities as lazing in the sun, lazing on the couch and pooping in a box, “always seems to pull something,” says Collin Andrews, Herman’s owner.

Andrews said he discovered his cat’s hidden abilities while he was filming his five-year-old son in his kitchen. Herman unexpectedly walked directly in front of the camera, comically slipped on a smooth tabletop and knocked over a vase.

“He just came into the frame out of nowhere,” Andrews said of the animal who, if you sat alone in a room with him would never make you laugh, not in a million years. “Perfect timing!”

The more Andrews turned his attention to his normally tedious pet, the more whimsical videos he was able to collect. “Herman’s getting pretty popular for all of his little quirks,” Andrews said of the feline whose same-as-all-other-cats behavior transforms into high comedy when he is filmed. “I’m so proud of him.”

Herman, who either provides entertainment to millions of people simultaneously, or to no one at all, could not be reached for comment.

“Yeah,” Andrews explained, “he’s a little shy of strangers.”

At press time, Andrews had turned the camera lens toward his dog Garth, who gave it the same sad look he always gives.
