POINT: You can count on me like 1, 2, 3 // COUNTERPOINT: Is that the highest you can count?

POINT:

Hey pal, I just wanted to say that you can count on me like 1, 2, 3. You hear that? 1, 2, 3. If you ever need anything––absolutely anything at all––I will be there for you like 1, 2, 3.

Car broke down? I’m there with a tow truck like 1, 2, 3. Wife going into labor? I’m delivering her baby like 1, 2, 3. You say the word––or rather those three words––and I will be there, through thick and thin, because, at the end of the day and till the end of time, you can count on me like 1, 2, 3.

Don’t even worry about it. Don’t even hesitate to reach out. No matter what, you can count on me like one, two, three: Uno, dos, tres. Un, deux, trois. Один, два, три. It doesn’t matter how you say it because you can always––and I mean always––count on me like 1, 2, 3.

COUNTERPOINT:

Hey, I’m so grateful for our friendship, and I’m so flattered that you would help me out in any and every situation. However, I just gotta ask: Is that the highest you can count?

Don’t get me wrong. I’m extremely fortunate to have such a passionate, supportive, and committed friend. However, I’m just wondering if you can count higher than three. Surely, if you really wanted to convey the magnitude of your friendship––which, again, is extremely impressive, and I’m totally thankful for that––you would count to a number way higher than three, like 84 or 16,789.

Again, I don’t want to sound ungrateful. I know you mean well, I really do. But, you could at least make it to four.
