Paxson's Strategic Plan Just The Word "Trajectory" Printed 3,547 Times

Published Sunday, October 27th, 2013

The Corporation today is set to approve University President Christina Paxson’s long-term strategic plan for Brown, which consists solely of the word “trajectory” printed 3,547 times.

The plan now stands for approval by the Corporation, the University’s leading authority on the word “trajectory.” If approved this month, the first 200 uses of the word “trajectory” are expected to go into effect by the end of this year.

Among the plan’s proposals are several appearances of the word “trajectory” on its own line, one 20-word run-on sentence consisting only of the word “trajectory,” and what appears to be a rhetorical question regarding the concept of trajectory.

“Trajectory?” the plan reads. “Trajectory.”

At today’s Corporation meeting, administrators will present feedback from students, faculty, and staff. Feedback, according to Associate Dean Lars Unger, be restricted to the use of the word “trajectory.”

“It’s important to remember that this plan is not about our next steps, it’s about our larger trajectory as a university,” Unger said. “We want to ensure that we’re preserving the debate around that trajectory.”

At press time, Corporation sources indicated that the plan’s final draft may sacrifice some uses of the word “trajectory” to make way for repetitions of the words “innovation,” “values,” and “tradition.”
