Saying that she initially felt it was a sensible thing to do, area woman Jill Roberts realized today that her purchase of a 20-person tandem bicycle wasn’t the best decision. “I excitedly brought home this huge bike from the bike store like, ‘I’m gonna get all my friends to ride this thing,’” Roberts said, adding that she had plans to go to the park with a large group and ride around all day. “Suddenly it dawns on me: I don’t think I even have 19 friends. Not close ones, at least. Even if I did, it’d probably present a scheduling problem, getting everyone together on the same day at the same time and all. Assuming I did get everyone together, well, that wouldn’t justify the price because it’d be a once-a-year kind of deal. It was pretty expensive. I paid $10,000 for this bike. That’s $500 a person.” At press time, Roberts added that her recent purchase of a Toyota Corolla was still one of the most sensible purchases of her entire life.
