Report: 60% of Americans Can't Locate America On This Map I Drew

Published Tuesday, October 6th, 2015

According to a recent report, 60 percent of Americans can’t locate America on this map that I drew. “It’s a pretty scary statistic,” I said about the report. “What does this say about the priorities of our education system? What does this say about the future of America? Nothing good. Personally, I’m very concerned about these results.”

The worrisome analysis showed that of the 40 percent of Americans who could identify America on the map I made, only half could identify it without a big hint from me. Of those who could not identify America, many even had trouble identifying it as a map at all. “It’s pretty embarrassing for this nation, which is supposed to be a leading nation in the world,” I said of the report breakdown, whose results held true across all genders, ages, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

“When statistics like this emerge, it’s important to ask ourselves why this is happening,” I evaluated. “Everyone wants to look for a scapegoat—TV, teachers, parents, the fact that the map is in crayon, whatever—but ultimately I think it’s the individual’s responsibility to know this kind of thing.”

Related reports also found that an alarmingly low number of Americans could name the number between 1 and 100 that I am thinking of.
