Sad Couple Again Forced To Explain How They Met At Taping Of “Lopez Tonight”

Published Friday, December 6th, 2013

Calling their meeting place “fun and interesting in its own way,” sad husband and wife Jonah and Melissa Washburn were again forced to tell the story of how they met at a taping of the now-defunct George Lopez-helmed late-night program, “Lopez Tonight,” at a party early Saturday evening.

“Well, I had just moved to L.A. and I wanted desperately to meet new people,” Melissa reportedly told friends after the couple was asked about their incredibly depressing meeting place. “The ushers placed us next to each other and we chatted in between the warm-up comic’s pretty impressive crowd work and Lopez’s introduction. We hit it off right away.”

The couple, who will one day have to tell their kids about all this, reportedly sat through the entire taping, and pathetically learned about one another during commercial breaks, before watching Lopez discuss topics of the day with Brendan Fraser or some other just as sad celebrity.

“I mean, I think George Lopez is actually kinda talented,” said Jonah about the 52-year-old comedian, whose pitiful little talk show will forever color his marriage and family life. “He had this bit about how being an American is like being a dog in a world of cats or something. It was pretty funny.”

Jonah, who proposed to Melissa on the second anniversary of their bummer of an introduction, reportedly had VIP tickets to the taping, and after the show took Melissa backstage, where they sorrowfully dined on a tray of cold cuts and waited 20 minutes for a junky wave from Lopez as he left the studio.

“I guess I could say I wouldn’t be married to my wife right now if it weren’t for ‘Lopez Tonight,’” Jonah later said, an embarrassing reminder of the fact that his life as he knows it is inextricably tied to the short-lived, critically-panned program. “I mean, we could have met at a taping of ‘The Daily Show’ or ‘Fallon’ or something. But ‘Lopez Tonight’ isn’t the worst. Things could be worse.”

At press time, the Washburns decided they would just lie from now on and say they met at the taping of an indisputably great show, like the hit CBS comedy, “2 Broke Girls.”
