Sarah Barton of Thornton Donovan Kindergarten expressed doubts Tuesday concerning the future of her pretend marriage with classmate Henry Fritz.
“I thought we’d spend the rest of our recess together,” Barton said, “but he’s just not the same little boy I started this pretend family with.”
According to Barton, Fritz spends long spans of time away from the sandbox they call home, leaving the care of their two pretend children to her. “They’ve been getting harder to handle,” Barton noted. “Tanya thinks that just because she’s older than me she gets to make up the rules. It’s her own fault she wanted to be the daughter.” Barton added that at the dinner table, she finds herself constantly having to chastise the two not to play with their plastic food.
“And then he keeps getting sent to the principal’s office,” Barton said. "It’s setting a terrible example for the kids. And don’t even get me started on his Capri-Sun habit.”
“There’ve been times when I wanted to leave,” Barton added, “start a new life, maybe with Luke or Andy instead. But when you make a commitment to play house with someone, you have to try to work it out, even in the bad times.”
Despite the sentiment, tensions in the Fritz-Barton household were reportedly even higher after family dog Jacob Kolden ran away during lunch to join a game of freeze tag.
