Student Feels Like She's Wasting Her Time In Class DJ'd By Diplo

Published Friday, April 24th, 2015

Worried she hasn’t learned a thing in almost a month of lecture, Mia Sodhi ’18 reported feeling like she was wasting her time in a class DJ’d by Diplo.

“It’s a 50 minute class, and it usually takes Diplo half that time just to set up all of his equipment,” said Sodhi, adding that even when the lecture starts, the loud electronic music makes it really difficult to take notes. “He’s a pretty famous DJ, but I don’t know. I’m paying a lot of money to be here and I’m not getting much out of this."

According to Sodhi, Diplo also gives really vague assignments. “It’s never totally clear what he expects,” said Sodhi. “Last week, our homework was to ‘run the trap’ and ‘burn down the dance floor.’ What does that even mean? How am I supposed to submit that to Canvas?”

Sodhi expressed that, although the Grammy-nominated DJ has a good grasp on electronic music production, he does not know how to teach. “I’m a visual learner, and it would be nice if Diplo would use PowerPoints every once in a while,” said Sodhi, putting in earbuds on her way to class.

Sodhi added, “He is clearly very talented, but I can’t think as fast as he DJ’s.”

At press time, Sodhi was taking Molly in the SciLi to prepare herself for her upcoming midterm.
