Already known for his skill in performing backflips, sources report that Brent Montgomery ‘19 is even better at finding or making opportunities to perform the gymnastic stunts.
“Brent is really good at taking any statement out of a conversation and using it to segue into talking about backflips,” said Montgomery’s roommate Bryce Stapleton ‘19, adding that Brent’s conversational transitions into the backflips are usually flawless, even if his actual landings can be sloppy. “Then he does a backflip.”
Montgomery, who stands in a backflip-ready stance at all times, has already made a reputation for himself, uploading a video of himself doing a backflip as part of a funny face challenge on the Class of 2019 class group, entering the circle at the orientation dance to perform two consecutive backflips but not actually dance at all, and earning applause at the alcohol and drug awareness talk by performing a backflip while asking a question about when to call EMS.
“This kid makes it look effortless,” said Brian Fitzpatrick ‘17, Montgomery’s resident counselor, noting that a certain glint comes into Montgomery’s eyes every time he prepares to attempt to create a situation that calls for a backflip. “Every single icebreaker I have them play, every conversation about how to register for classes and suddenly he’s in the air. There’s no stopping him.”
“Lots of people can backflip, and I’m actually better at backflips than Brent,” said gymnast Michael O’Henry ‘18, who had to pause mid-sentence in order to execute his flawless backflip. “But Brent would’ve kept talking the whole way through, and coming out he’d have a one-liner prepared in case anybody was going to question why he was suddenly showing off.”
Added O’Henry, “He’d say ‘What the flip are you looking at?’ or something. See, I can’t do it.”
Jenna Martin ‘19 expressed her admiration for her friend, noting in particular the time that Montgomery turned a conversation about the stuntmen in “Smallville” into a lesson on the three different types of backflips without even pausing the episode. “He did all three of them, and none of us even remember him standing up. It was dark, so we couldn’t really see if the backflips were good, but he definitely nailed the contextual justification.”
Martin went on to say that she’d never wanted to fuck anyone more than she wanted to fuck Montgomery at that moment.
