Student Studying Abroad Engages In Local Culture By Hanging Out With Exact Same Friend Group From School

Published Friday, February 6th, 2026

This semester, study abroad student Lillian Haley ’27 is immersing herself in local Spanish culture by hanging out with the exact same friend group that she had on campus.

“I really feel like I’m getting the full Spanish experience here, what with all of the vibrant people I’m spending time with, not to mention the authentic cuisine,” Haley said while sipping a pistachio latte from Starbucks. “I have so much in common with all of the regulars at this coffee shop! I can’t lie, it’s been surprisingly easy to integrate into the local community.”

“I’ve definitely found my people here,” continued Haley, whose roommates are all girls she met in her freshman year Bruno Group. “Between Sara and Maxine and Olivia—who are all from different places across the entire tri-state area—I love having the opportunity to get to know people from diverse cultural backgrounds.”

At press time, a student who was procrastinating their homework in their dorm room is now doing it in the library instead.
