Students Eating Lunch On Faunce Steps Like Jungle Creatures On Ruins Of Mesoamerican Pyramid

Published Friday, April 9th, 2021

On a gorgeous spring day on the Main Green last Friday, students ate their lunch on the Faunce steps like jungle creatures on the side of a long-abandoned Mesoamerican pyramid.

“It’s such a beautiful day to meet with a friend for lunch on the steps of Faunce!” said junior Margie Graham, sharing clementines with her friend as if they were primates feeding on the stone steps of a ruined Aztec pyramid. “Who knew that stairs make such good seats!”

Observers also noted that Graham flicked a muffin crumb off her friend’s back like a dutiful primate mother grooming her young as they rested on the facade of an ancient Toltec marvel slowly being reclaimed by the dense jungle.

“Now that the weather is nice, it’s so much easier to meet up with people outside!” continued Graham on the Faunce steps, as if she were a jungle animal taking a midday break from her treacherous journey through the treetops to eat grubs and fruit, totally unaware of the fact that her temporary resting place was once the holiest site of a vast civilization. It was as though she had many miles to go, and although it lies forgotten, this stone temple can once again offer salvation to the living. “Plus, my Blue Room sandwich is so tasty!”

Other students ate their lunch directly on the grass like lowly rainforest creatures who live in the mud.
