Students Making Out at Sigma Can't Believe How Much They Have in Common

Published Friday, November 4th, 2011

Those who stayed late at the Sigma Chi party Friday night watched with vague interest as Annie Lipstein ’14 and Doug Roberts ’14 went from celebrating their victory at the pong table to making out furiously in plain sight.

“Well, we’re in the same econ section, but we totally didn’t realize how much we had in—” Lipstein started. “Common!” Roberts finished. “We both did Bolt, we both took Spanish in high school, I’m a vegetarian and his cousin’s a vegetarian …” Lipstein trailed off, fixated on a tree across Wriston Quad.

Lipstein’s suitemates, Marina James ’14 and Daniela Donalds ’14, described the events at Sigma leading up to the fairly gross public display. They stated that Roberts began by being borderline too loud and obnoxiously trying to steal Lipstein’s attention from a nearby tree. “He kept saying ‘Dude, that’s clutch!’ about nothing in particular in our general direction,” said James. After a moment of brief drunken eye contact with Lipstein, Roberts asked, “Wanna play pong?” and accidentally spilled a little Natty Light on his bro tank. Lipstein then agreed, her poorly feigned reluctance failing to hide her grin.

Once at the beer pong table, Roberts said he bonded with Lipstein over how they both call the game beer pong and not Beirut, “like those dickheads do.” They took on a team of two students who used to hook up but are now making a point of how they really are better as friends. “First [Roberts and Lipstein] fist bumped a lot, then they bonded over how they both like Chicken Finger Friday, and by the time they’d sunk their last cup they were hooking up,” said Donalds.

Lipstein Facebook friended Roberts the next afternoon. “I wasn’t sure if it was too soon for that, but we both prefer the old Facebook anyway, you know?” Lipstein said, still staring at the tree. When asked where things might go with Lipstein, Roberts shrugged and said, “I don’t know, dude. Honestly, I’m not gonna lie, truth be told, that girl double fisted like a champ.”
