Clients were left confused and enraged after posing for a street vendor who makes his living claiming to draw his subjects in a disgusting, exaggerated manner but left them feeling good about themselves.
“This is ridiculous; I feel like I’ve been totally swindled!” one client said while looking at a portrait depicting him with stellar bone structure, an intact hairline, and overall evidence of grooming that simply wasn’t there. Next to his face, to the right, was a list of affirmations for health, love, and fulfillment. To the left was a list of “unpaintable attributes” which the artist still felt deserved appreciation. The advertisement for caricatures implied, to the man, “some level of psychic assault which would leave me questioning my worth for days.” The picture received, however, was one which left him confident and secure. “It’s bullshit!”
At press time, a terrible opera singer left the crowd understanding the lyrics and general plot of the story.
